The RYA is pleased to announce the 2022 RYA Youth National Championships will be held at Plas Heli, Wales, from 9-15 April 2022.
The country’s most prestigious youth sailing competition returns to its traditional Easter time slot after the Covid-19 situation meant a change of dates to the 2021 event that is due to take place in Plymouth in early August.
Plas Heli, the Welsh National Sailing Academy and Event Centre, also sees the return of hosting duties as Covid restrictions in Wales meant cancellation of the 2020 event that was set to be held at the Pwllheli venue.
2022 will see the first time the new current pathway equipment will be raced from the same venue as iQFOiL and kites join the ILCA, 420, Nacra 15 and 29er fleets.
Both the foiling boards and kites will make their debut in the upcoming Youth Nationals but restrictions and scheduling conflicts mean the kites will contest their Youth Nationals shortly after in Exmouth.
Mark Nicholls, RYA Youth Racing Manager, said: “We are really happy that the Youth Nationals is heading to Plas Heli for 2022.
“Everyone at the venue and RYA Cymru Wales worked so hard to get the event on in 2020 in exceptional circumstances but came unstuck with a situation that was out of anyone’s control.
“But now, young sailors from across the nation will get the chance to experience safe and fun racing in a fantastic venue. It’s going to be a great event yet again I’m sure.”

updated August 6th 2021.
The 2021 season starts on 1st April and the demand for the berths on the Plas Heli pontoons is already exceptional, we anticipate a 100% occupancy this season!
We are extremely grateful for the mammoth effort of our volunteer workforce in carrying out maintenance and preparation works on the pontoons, including the jet-washing of the walkways.
So, we are now all set and ready for the season!
For those who have not yet completed the '2021 on-line application form' (here) we strongly recommend that this is done as soon as possible. Berths will be allocated on a first come basis.
Priority for berths will be given to the customers who commit to a seasonal berth.
We have already moved the versa-dock to provide additional berths on the north side of the main walkway and we are now looking at other options to help with the increased demand especially in the peak season. When these plans have been developed, we will share the information via the CHPSC e-newsletter and on the Plas Heli web site.
2021 is going to be busy - the sailing events will include many Class Events, Four National Championships and one European Championship, in addition to Regional and National Training Camps
The Facilities at Plas Heli are now open and the bar and cafe will be open from Thursday 12th November subject to the usual restrictions on track and trace distancing and face
In line with the latest initiatives to minimize the spread of Covid 19 we are determined to play our part to minimize the spread of this virus.
We have followed the guidance of our Governing Body, RYA and RYA Cymru Wales, for centres, sailing clubs and associations, boaters and sailors, and also the instruction of Welsh Government and all appropriate Health Authorities.
We will provide updates on this web site and by our weekly updates but for now please keep safe.
