Plas Heli, The Welsh National Sailing Academy & Events Centre, is the ideal site for your sailing event.
Our close proximity to the beach, means that we can launch a large fleet all at the same time, making Plas Heli the only location where over 450 boats can simultaneously launch an entire fleet along the shoreline. This beach access is close to the excellent shore facilities and provides access to probably the best sailing waters in the UK.
The new facilities (2015) include a secure compound, ample parking areas for cars and trailers and a camping site for motor homes with electric hook-ups.
The Sailing Academy has a large open hall for sail measurement and associated activities, a sailors cafe/bar in addition to the first floor restaurant with spectacular views over Cardigan Bay and the mountains of Snowdonia.

Plas Heli is the venue of choice in Wales for many class associations because of the excellence and convenience of the sailing area with minimal tidal influences and a short sail to the race areas. The facilities offered at Plas Heli include a sheltered beach launching, a secure compound for dinghies, camping facilities and adjacent free car parking.
Over the last seventeen years (2007 – 2024) we have hosted 9 World Championships and over 98 UK National Championships, as well as staging many other class competitions and training camps.
Pwllheli is recognised by the RYA as one of its four sea-based national sailing academies suitable for hosting International Olympic and pathway youth and junior class competitions. It is the only such facility in Wales.
The exceptional standard of the area’s sailing waters was recognised by LOCOG (the London 2012 Organising Committee) for inclusion on the prestigious London 2012 Olympic Pre-Games Training Camp Guide. It was the only venue in Wales for the sport of sailing. Pwllheli had been chosen also as the sailing venue for the Manchester Olympic bids, which is testimony to the world-class quality of the sailing waters.
These events make an important contribution to the local community by raising the profile of the town and Llyn in general as well as having a positive impact to the local economy.
The Events team welcomes the support from club volunteers and offers training where required. Anybody interested in becoming a volunteer should send an e-mail to or
