Plas Heli Cyf is the Operating Company for The Welsh National Sailing Academy and Events Centre  and is a Community Enterprise, Not for Profit Distribution Company. We are a Voluntary Organisation with Charitable aims where surpluses are reinvested back into the facility for everyone's benefit.

WCVA (Wales Council for Voluntary Action) has provided support to Plas Heli so that the voluntary and community support work can continue during these difficult times for voluntary groups and organisations.

Stephen Tudor, Plas Heli's Chairman, said 'we are delighted to be working with WcVA, the national membership body for voluntary organisations in Wales. The assistance provided through the 'Third Sector Resilience Fund'  has been a life-line that has enabled us to continue with our community work despite the limitations of the Pandemic.' As a recent example we have been able to assist the Nursing staff at Betsi Cadwaladr National Health Trust by providing  facilities for patient consultations in a secure, covid-free environment (more  about our work with NHS here).

SICLOGOXXX from WCVA said 'the Third Sector Resilience Fund is a perfect fit for organisations like Plas Heli who fell between the cracks in support  measures offered  by Welsh Government to businesses following the Pandemic lock-down which brought all activities at Plas Heli to an abrupt halt'

'WcVA exists to enable voluntary organisations to make a bigger difference. We are very pleased  that we have been able to make  a positive contribution to the  work at  Plas Heli'

Plas Heli and the National Sailing Academy and Event Centre was an important strategic investment by Welsh Government  and Gwynedd Council in the provision of facilities capable of attracting tourism to Wales and the Llyn Peninsula. Plas Heli provides an important focus for sporting activity in the local community and a source of inward investment from tourism, resulting in a reported a £3.7M input into the local economy in 2015 from event activities.

The importance of Plas Heli to the community is undeniable; it provides a home for many sport clubs, is a meeting place for community groups and is a driving force in attracting events to the area.

The work undertaken by Plas Heli is even more important now because Pwllheli has been identified as one of the worst affected towns (economically) in the UK because of the Pandemic. It is also important to note, however, that prior to the Pandemic, Pwllheli was identified as one of the most deprived communities in the UK. As with many coastal communities there exists a problem of visual wealth masking the underlying depravation.

Plas Heli looks forward to a future with a new way of working and is grateful for the space in and around the facility which will enable activities on a socially distance basis in 2021.
